IMPHAL, April 9: Confiscated goods worth Rs 6, 13,487 were destroyed by setting on fire today at the Central Revenue Complex, Lamphelpat by the Destruction Committee of Customs Division, Imphal.
The confiscated goods were burnt under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Customs Division, Imphal G Panmei.
Speaking to media persons, Superintendent Disposal Ph Madhai Singh said that the goods were used to conceal precious stones and gold to be smuggled across the border while adding that the destroyed items were seized between the period of 2011 to 2015 from different customs bit points located at Moreh, Pallel and Imphal.
He continued that the most vulnerable smuggling point is Moreh where most of the items are seized by the custom officials.
Informing that most of the confiscated items which were destroyed are cigarette, Khaini, split beetle nuts and diablo beer, he said that those precious stones and gold seized have been sent to Guwahati Custom Office for auction.
