KIMACS conducts academic discussion on Thang-ta

IMPHAL, April 24: Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Culture Society (KIMACS) organised an academic discussion on the topic `Ngashigi Maheiroi Singda Thang-Ta gi Tangaifadaba` today as a part of its 4th KIMACS Festival of Thang-Ta at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.

Speaking to media persons, KIMACs president M Surjaboro Meitei said that Thang-Ta, the indigenous martial art form is an important part of the society.

During the festival, experts are passing knowledge as to how the forefathers use Thang-ta not only in self-defence but in order to keep fit, he said.

People have the wrong impression that the Thang-ta is important only while fighting, he said.

It has a beautiful concept behind it, he said explaining further that Thang-ta is in real a form of our parents.

Like our father is the protector and guide to us, Thang-ta, he said protects and guides us.

This is why its revival is important for our young generation, he continued.

Today`™s discussion was attended by MATAM vice president I Ibomcha Meetei, Government Dance College principal Ranjit Adhikarimayum, Hueiyen Lanpao, Manipuri edition editor Hemanta Ningomba, DESAM president M Angamba, deputy secretary BOSEM L Mangi Singh, joint secretary academic COHSEM Babudhon Sapamcha as panel members and professor MU Paonam Gunindro as the moderator.

KIMACS also announced the prize winners of the Thang-Ta competition which was held on April 23.

While Alpha BDI Memorial Academy of Hijam Dewan Leikai bagged the first position, Sanatombi Oriental English School of Kumbi took second places, Sacred Heart Hr, Secondary School of Porompat bagged third places.
