IMPHAL, April 13: Vehicular movement along Imphal-Mayang Imphal Raod came to a standstill for few hours today over a spat following an altercation between some individuals belonging to two communities.
Reports said the incident occurred when some Meitei Pangals coming to Mayang Imphal Kouchak Keithel were asked by individuals of Mayang Imphal Kouchak Naorem from where they are coming and to produce identification documents at around 10 am.
The Meetei Pangals were coming to attend a religious ceremony at Mayang Imphal Bengoon situated just opposite to Mayang Imphal Kouchak Naorem. Some of them are from Lilong.
When they were asked to produce identification documents, a heated confrontation cropped up between them resulting in a fight.
Following the confrontation, a large number of people from Bengoon came out and blocked the Imphal-Mayang Imphal Road demanding strict action against the assaulters.
On hearing the news, a team of police came in and brought the situation under control.
Later, an understanding was reached between the two sides, the reports stated.
