IMPHAL, April 25: Expressing concern over a reported statement that Imphal East is placed last among the four valley districts in agricultural and horticulture productions, Thongju MLA Th Biswajit said farmers of the district need to avail maximum benefits of the government provided schemes.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 1st foundation day celebration of Thongju Kendra Green Revolution Apunba Lup, Thongju Part II held at Pheijleitong Makha Maibi Lampak today.
He continued he is always there to bridge any gap between the farmers and the related departments.
The farmers should avail all government provided benefits to make the constituency self reliant in agricultural and horticulture products, the MLA continued.
Under the present government, there is so much connectivity problem between the concerned departments and the farmers which has affected the farmers`™ production capacity, he added.
The government should not merely provide free seeds and saplings but should also set a project plan targeting increase production, the MLA continued.
At the same time, the concern department can encourage scientific approach to farming to minimize effort, time and money of the farmers and maximize production, Biswajit stated, adding that the farmers of the constituency can also contact him whenever they want to approach the Agriculture minister, Central Agriculture University vice chancellor or other officials regarding their issues.
Today`™s observation was also attended by TKGRAL president Nepram Bihari Meitei, Agriculture deputy director Nongmaithem Shyamkishwor Singh, district agricultural officer Thokchom Ranbir Singh, Agriculture extension officer Imphal East N Nilamani Singh, subject specialist plant protection KVK Dr Thokchom Robindro Singh, social worker Dhanachandra Sanasam, ex Pradhan Thongju GP Chirom Romio Singh and G Gopal Sharma from horticulture department as president and guests of honour respectively.
