IMPHAL, May 4: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Teachers Association (AMHDCBTA) on Sunday has warned that if the government fails to consider their demands and continue to remain silent, the association will take up strong forms of agitation with the support from various student organisations.
Speaking to media persons, JAC AMHDCBTA spokesperson, HM Saka said that the association has taken up various form of agitations pressuring the Government to fulfill its demands.
Elaborating on the steps taken up already, he said a ban was placed against all national projects in the State since April followed by a 72-hour inter-State transport ban starting from April 20 to April 23. On April 27 and April 28, the JAC had imposed another 24-hour State-wide general strike, he said.
However, the teachers are saddened by the government`™s attitude of not responding to their demands positively, he said.
If the government continues to act differently towards the association, it will be compelled to take up stronger forms of agitation with support from the All Naga Students`™ Association Manipur and the Kuki Students`™ Organisation, he warned.
The association is also asking the private companies involved in the railway project to cease work immediately and to support their agitation, he said.
In case the companies fail to support the agitation, they along with the government should take full responsibility for any untoward incident occurring during their further course of agitation, he warned.
As of now, the association is relaxing any ban in the interest of the public who have been suffering much due to the chain of bandhs and blockades imposed by different organisations, he continued.
Saka also said that Thomas Paomei has been elected as the secretary of the association and N Ibomcha as co-convener.
It may be noted that AMHDCBTA has been demanding regularization of the contractual teachers appointed in 2006.
