IMPHAL, May 30: Continuing his tirade against the Congress government in the run up to the Autonomous District Council election, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba alleged that the Congress has siphoned off NREGA funds amounting to almost Rs 53 crores meant for the Nepali community.
He was speaking at an ADC election campaign for the party`™s candidate for 7-Keithelmanbi district council constituency Ngamlen Kipgen at Prarsian Santalabari today.
The NREGA funds were meant for the year 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, he continued.
At the same time, the Nepali community in the State has been put in confusion as to whether they are included in the ADC or Panchayat system of local governance, Chaoba claimed.
The community is also at a lost as to whether they are categorized under Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste or OBC, Chaoba further asserted.
Amidst all these confusions, the Congress has siphoned off the developmental funds meant for the Nepali community, he claimed.
Now is the time for the community to vote for the BJP to get their revenge, he continued.
Choaba further claimed that when he was with the Congress, the party MLAs and ministers worked for the people and had no idea of corruption.
He said there are 2500 Nepali voters, 2300 Kuki voters and only 400 Naga voters in the constituency and as such the Nepalis will be deciding factor of the ADC election.
BJP national executive member tapir Gao said the Nepalis are termed as Gorkha in India and they are categorized under the minority group.
Today is the last day of campaigning for the June 1 ADC election and the BJP conducted three campaigns at Prasian Sontalabari 7-Keithelmanbi, 6-Kalapahar at Yaikongpao village for BJP candidate M John Thanga and at Sapermeina village.
The BJP campaign was also attended by M Bhorot, General Secretary M Asnikumar and L Basanta Sharma, Kharga Tamang State Secretary and in-charge Senapati District.
