IMPHAL, April 10: `The Dancing Drummers,`™ a new music composition by Rhythms of Manipur was staged at NT Theatre, Changangei, Imphal West today. Today`™s show enthralled the crowd especially when women drummers took to the stage.
Seven new artists performed different beats on the `Langdeng`™ which is mainly played by men before.
The ensemble was accompanied by regular artists of the musical troupe on the Pena, Pung, Violin, Sitar etc including other ethnic musical instruments. The event also showcased a new talent, Saikhom Pinky and her rendition of Moirang Sai, an episode from Moirang Kangleirol.
The production for 2014-15 focuses on bringing up lady artists and keeping alive the rich cultural and traditional drum beats styles of Manipur. Some of the ancient beating styles are abandoned or rarely used in events and festivals. Rhythms of Manipur set up in 1985, is a professional performing group having expertise in both traditional and fusion arts.
