IMPHAL, May 9: `Culture, language and literature construct the foundation of identity as it plays the integral role in promoting and developing not only for individual identity but in creating identity to the whole world, noted Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam during the 80th annual meeting of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy (JNMDA) here today.
Speaking as chief guest, Gaikhangam maintained that individual success cannot be counted as development but it can be called only when there is all round development for the entire population of the state.
Highlighting the importance of books, he asserted that books have the power to change the perspective of the individual through its message and it also transform the society in the right way.
Taking an inspirational example of Francis Bacon quote `Reading makes a full man, conference a ready man and writing makes an exact man` he further explained that reading leads to a fuller and well informed individual, conference makes one witty and a good speaker and lastly writing makes precision, sound judgment and exactness on the part of writing.
Gaikhangam also lauded the senior members and scholars who have dedicated and work with enthusiasm in bringing up the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as it plays the key role in creating an identity of the state.
The Dy CM also assured the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in apprising their grievances and demands to the Chief Minister.
Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro who was present at the occasion as guest of honour stated that it is not the time to give just lecture but time for all the Manipuris to start acting and preserve the rich culture, language and literature of the state.
He also assured from the government side to extend all possible helps for the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in developing and promoting and also in trying to fulfil its demands.
Today`™s function was also attended by Prof Thoidingjam Tombi Singh, president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad as the president.
