Financial incentives distributed to colleges

Imphal, May 8: Education Minister, M Okendro, today distributed financial incentive to purchase library books and science equipments to various colleges today at SSA Conference Hall, Babupara.

The distribution ceremony was organized by the Directorate of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur.

Education Minister M Okendro was the Chief Guest while Commissioner and Secretary of Hr. and Tech. Edn. and SCERT P Vaiphei, Director of Hr. Education C Arthur W and Additional Director RK Yaiskul also attended as the dignitaries during the function.

Altogether Rs 1.37 crore were distributed to principals and representatives of 28 Government colleges, 29 private colleges and five Non-Government (aided) colleges for the fiscal year 2014-15.

Addressing the gathering, M Okendro claimed that the education system is on the right track adding that he attributed the progress to teachers, principals, parents and administrators who are involved.

The people of Manipur have started trusting the new and improved education system where there is no room for any unfair means in any main exams, he continued.

Against this back drop, two more universities are in the pipeline wherein one would be a private (International Private University) and the other a state run university (DM University), he said.

The system of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation system which is still in practice at higher education should have been removed long ago as it has brought serious inequalities, asserted the Education Minister.

He observed that to bring quality education all section in Manipur join force to evaluate where are the loopholes.

With the incoming change in the education policy of India, he stated that all the education ministers of north east India would pressure the Indian Govt. to include NE India in the new policy.

Clarifying on the recent crisis with regards to the CBSE students, the Minister divulged that a fact finding committee set up by the State Government has reported that only 435 students could produce the relevant documents that they are genuine CBSE school students. As a onetime policy to save the career of these students after discussing with the Cabinet special exam will be arranged, he added.

Further the rule of only two CBSE school per district beside Kendra Vidyalaya and other central schools would be made mandatory and other schools who are functioning without following the rules and regulation would be checked, added Okendro.
