IMPHAL, May 8: The government should be held responsible for any untowards incident perpetrated on any ADC canditate during the ADC election by Armed outfits under the Suspension of Operation with the governments JD(U) state president M Tombi asserted today.
He said the State government should also take up proper measures to protect the candidates from any harm as armed outfits have been reportedly threatening candidates from fighting the elction.
In such a circumstance, the State government conducting the scrutiny of nomination papers at the Lamphel DC office complex is a welcome measure, he continued.
He said the party`™s candidate from Tengnoupal 2-Khoibu has been under pressurised by a UG group to drop his candidature.
The armed group had even chased the candidate till Imphal, he claimed.
We have met the Home minister Gaikhangam on the issue and apprise him of all the incidents regarding the threat, he continued.
Gaikhangam has also assured to take up security measures on the issue, he said.
He said the last ADC election was conducted more on a selection and not election process, denying chances for the people to choose their own representatives.
Tombi further appealed to the people to stop gun culture and make the election a free and fair process.
