IMPHAL, 22 May: Editor of Poknapham daily A Robindro Sharma was today honoured with 3rd Devarshi Narad Journalist Award 2015 by Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Manipur on the occasion of the 3rd Devarshi Narada Jayanti celebration held at Manipur Press Club.
He is the fourth person from the state to be honoured with the award.
Addressing the gathering as guest of honour, Dr Ganesh Sethi, Head of Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University stated that journalism profession is always challenging by its nature and acknowledged that a journalist being honoured with such award is a big achievement.
He said that there is a serious challenge amongst the media houses not only on the news quality but also on its content wise.
A Robindro Sharma admitted that though he did not receive training in journalism, his commitment and love for the filed brought him to the level of an editor.
Vice-Chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi Patrakarita Vishwa Vidyalaya, Bhopal Prof BK Kuthiala who was the chief guest of the function said that celebration of Devarshi Narada Jayanti every year is a perfect occasion to honour and felicitate distinguished practitioners in the field of journalism.
He asserted that ethics of journalisms are closely related with the preaching of Narada Muni as the influential works of Narada Muni perhaps marked the beginning of journalism in the country.
`Today`™s fiction might become a reality in future`™, he noted.
Pointing out that it will be a matter of concern if media houses became profit making centre, he said that the profession of journalism should not be commercialized at any cost.
Mention may be made that former editor of Prajatantra K Madhumangol Singh; columnist Iboyaima Khuman and Joint Director of All India Radio BB Sharma had already been honoured with this award.
The function was also attended by president of Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Manipur A Brajakumar Sharma as president.
