IMPHAL, May 3: An alleged hardcore cadre of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) identified as Joseph Rongmei, 35 son of Gaikhaning Rongmei of Noney Part IV Peaceland, who was rearrested by Khoupum Police from Sajiwa Jail on April 28 in connection with a case, has been formally arrested by Tamenglong Police.
He was formally arrested after being produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tamenglong yesterday.
It may be mentioned that Joseph Rongmei was reportedly tortured inhumanely by a team of 8 Assam Rifles in half-naked in full public view before arresting him from Noney Bazar on April 6. He was later handed over to Nungba Police Station.
According to the AR, Joseph Rongmei is a Self-Style Captain and Noney Area Town Commander of ZUF.
