IMPHAL, June 7: The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) has today conducted the Teacher`™s Eligibility Test (TET) at the Tamphasana Girls High School with altogether 734 candidates appearing in the examination.
Of the total 734 candidates 192 candidates appeared for the TET paper-I (primary) including 45 male and 147 female candidates. In the paper II (Upper Primary/Graduate) category 542 candidates appeared including 158 male and 384 female candidate.
Elaborating on the issue of less number of candidates in this year`™s TET examination, BOARD secretary Sarat said that TET was first started in 2011 and as per the National Council of Teacher`™s Education (NCTE) guidelines if anyone wants to be qualify as teachers in Primary or Upper Primary level they must clear the TET first.
Further the norms said that to be eligible to appear in the Primary level a candidate must pass 2 years diploma in elementary Education (D.El.Ed) while B.ed to be eligible to appear for the Upper Primary/Graduate, he continued.
Sarat also said that however, in 2011 the numbers of people who have passed D.El.Ed were few in the State coupled with the need to recruit 2000 teachers, The Union HRD Ministry instructed the state Government to give 3 years relaxation.
He said there are more than 50000 candidates who had passed while there was qualification relaxation.
