CRPF constable hurt in stone attack

IMPHAL, Jun 17: Ahead of the 48-hours total bandh imposed by United Naga Council (UNC) along the National Highways in Naga inhabited areas with effect from June 16 midnight in pursuance of its Alternative Arrangement demand, a CRPF constable has been hospitalized after he was hit by stone pelted by suspected supporters of the bandh.

The incident took place yesterday around 11.20 pm at Wakho village around 1 km from Senapati Police Station towards Imphal.

The injured jawan has been identified as GL Mina posted at 69 BN CRPF at Mantripukhri. He received injuries in his head.

Reports said he was amongst the CRPF troops escorting several loaded oil tankers coming from Dimapur heading towards Imphal when the suspected bandh supporters of UNC pelted stones towards them. The escort was led by Assistant Commander Dolen as the escort commander.

Meanwhile, the ongoing 48-hour total bandh disrupted vehicular movement along the National Highway 37 (Imphal-Dimapur road) and Imphal-Tamenglong road.

Inter-state and inter-district passenger services also stayed off the road due to the bandh.
