IMPHAL, June 5: In pursuance of a notification issued by Office of the District Election Officer, Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi on June 3, a fresh Poll will be held in 18 polling stations of different District Council Constituencies of Sadar Hills on June 6 from 7 am till 4:30 pm.
To ensure free and fair poll and to avoid unnecessary claims/counter claims regarding identity of voters, certain guidelines/instructions are put in place under Rule 50 and Rule 51 of the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council (Election of Members) Rules, 2009, for strict compliance.
The guidelines/instructions are identification of voters/electors (under Rule 50) under which the Presiding officer may appoint the Chief/Chairman/Secretary of the concerned village authority to be seated at the entrance of the Polling Station where there are more than one village in the locality of the Polling area, the Chief/Chairman/Secretary of such village(s) may be included.
It also includes challenge of identity (under Rule 51) which states that if the Polling Agent of a particular Polling Station challenge(s) the identity of a person claiming to be a particular elector by depositing a sum of Rupees five in cash with the Presiding Officer, several documents can be produced by the person so challenged to adduce evidence in proof of his identity.
The documents are EPIC card issued by ECI; Bank Passbook; Driving License; Ration Card; MGNREGS Job Card; Aadhar Card; Pan Card and any other document to proof identification of the person with photo attached.
