IMPHAL, June 12: As the JAC formed in connection to the alleged killing of Ningthoujam Rebika and locals of Heirok accepted her body today and performed her last rites at her residence at Heirok Part II Tomli Makhong in Thoubal district today.
The body had been lyingat the JNIMS morgue since June 6.
A large number of locals including womenfolk holding torch in their hands gathered at Wangjing Bazar and offered floral wreaths to the coffin carrying her body.
Meanwhile, strongly condemning the alleged rape and murder of Rebika, sit-in-protests were staged by womenfolk in different parts of Heirok.
Sit-in-protests were organised by Wangjing-Wangkhei Meira Paibi Lup; Wangjing-Wangkhei Leikham Leirak Meira Paibi Lup; Wangjing-Hodamba Meira Paibi Apunba Lup; Wangjing Canteen Lampak Meira Paibi Lup; Wangjing Awang Leikai Meira Paibi Lup; Wangjing Heituppokpi Leikai Meira Paibi; Heirok Part II Maning Leikai Meira Paibi and Heshu Club Heirok Part II at their respective localities.
