MPHAL, June 12: Security forces arrested three militants including a self styled regional chairman of the NSCN-K during separate counter insurgency operations conducted in different parts of the State.
A statement issued by PRO Police department, RK Tutusana, said that on June 10 a combined team of district police commandos Imphal East and 40 Assam Rifles arrested an active member of KCP (MC) during search operation at Kiyamgei Keithel Macha.
The militant cadre has been identified as one Md Zahid Ali, 22, son of (L) Md Soukat Ali of Kyamgei Muslim Mayai Leikai.
It said that on his disclosure a 9mm pistol and a hand grenade were seized from his residence adding that further investigation revealed that he was involved in snatching of mobile phones and money from passerby at Kiyamgei area at night time. At the same time, he is also reported to have extorted money for general public to raise fund for the outfit, it added.
A case has been registered at Irilbung police station and investigation is going on.
It further said that Imphal West district police commando two militants belonging to NSCN-K including s/s chairman of Amamcht region, Chandel district, in separate incidents on June 11.
It said that the s/s chairman has been identified as one Khumlo Abi Anal alias Ambison, 40, son of (L) Khumlou of Lambung village.
He was asserted from a rented house of Nabachandra while conducting cordon and search operation in some suspectd houses in Lamphel super market area, it said adding that incriminating articles were seized from his possession.
On the other hand, the district police commandos also arrested an active member of NSCN-K the same day while conducting checking and frisking duty in fron of Sagolband Salam Leikai Lairembi.
He has been identified as Panmei Kalingong alias Kaling, 31 son of Panmei Poupoklung of Chingkhulong village.
A case have been registered in both the cases and investigation is said to be underway.
