CCpur NGO laments non arrival of monitory assistance for raped minors

LAMKA, July 5: The secretary of Action for Women and Child Advancement (AWCA), an NGO in Churachandpur district which caters and fights for the right of children and women in the district , today call press meet at the AWCA office located at Lailam veng, Lamka and said she was pain by the lack of action on the part of the district Social Welfare Department in delivering rehabilitation money/package to eight children who were raped, after they opened bank accounts for the purpose for more than three months now.

The money was granted under the Financial Assistance and Support Service to Victims of Rape, a scheme for restorative justice that falls under the agies of the District Criminal Justice, Relief and Rehabilitation Board.

“Though the victim s are undergoing the pain of rape, and bank accounts for each of them was opened on the March 29, the promised monetary assistance has still not been credited to their accounts till today,” Grace said.

Grace further said the AWCA was also deeply disturbed at the granting of bail to the rape accused Timothy Changsan , administrator of the North East Children Home (NECH) of Rangkai.

Changsan is facing the chare of raping seven minor girls who are hostellers in the Home he was guardian.

“After the rapist was booked under POCSO Act, which is non-bailable, he was released on bail which also come prior to 15 days of custody and before he faced a medical board to ascertain his claimed illness, by the Special Judge (POCSO) Rajnikanta.

Grace called for a review of the order. She said her NGO will be forced to act in case of non compliance to their appeal .

She also appealed to all such institutions or homes in Churachandpur, like the NECH, not to treat orphans and girls with disdain but with more humility and care.
