IMPHAL, Jul 3: The Extrajudicial Execution Victims Families Association, Manipur (EEVAM) has said that its 6th Foundation Day will be held on July 11.
A press release of EEVAM has said that families of victims of extrajudicial killings will be coming from various corners of Manipur to attend the function to be held in Imphal.
Moreover, various personalities who have contributed generously in the EEVFAM case of 1528 extrajudicial killings in the Supreme Court of India will be travelling from other parts of India to participate in the programme, it said.
On June 11, 2004, Thangjam Manorama was brutally gang raped and murdered by the 17th Assam Rifles which was followed by an unprecedented people`™s uprising against AFSPA. As justice on the case is still a far cry the Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust has been organising persistently memorial on the day for many years, it said.
It may also be noted that it on the July 11, 1987, the most gruesome military operation code name `Operation Blue Bird`™ was initiated in Senapati District of Manipur. The Committee for Human Rights (COHR), Manipur has also been observing the day as `Meot Meneige Mayokta Lepa Numit`™ for many years, it said.
The association has appealed to all to desist from calling any form of bandh, blockade or general strike on July 11, it said.
