IMPHAL, July 30: The rising water level of Chakpi River have submerged large track of agricultural land at Chandel and Chakpirong following incessant rainfall over the past few days.
According to Anal Lelruwl Tangpi (Anal Students`™ Union), the worst affected surrounding villages are Lambung, Riverlane, Hnahringkhu, Chandel Christian and Lamphou Pasna.
While residents of these villages have abandoned their home for safer locations, rivers at Chandel and Karong have crossed danger level.
Almost all inter villages roads remain inundated wile bridges at Lambung, Lamphou Pasna, Chakpikarong are on the verge of being submerged, said the ALT.
It has been informed that declaring the present situation as natural calamity, Robert Singh, deputy commissioner of Chandel along with (Anal Tribe Union) and ALT (Anal Students`™ Union) visited these affected places to take stock of the situation.
The team had reportedly arranged temporary relief camp at Maha union Government Higher Secondary School and indoor stadium, Chandel.
The students`™ body urged the concerned village chiefs, authority, to submit the list of affected residents to the students`™ body.
It further appealed the people not to panic and remain calm assuring possible help is on the way including from the Government side as well as from various civil bodies.
Meanwhile, the Anal Students`™ Union also informed all educational institution in the district Head Quarter to declare holiday till the situation is back to normal.
