Students and meira paibis demonstrate demanding ILPS implementation

IMPHAL, July 2: Continuing to put pressure on the State government to implement the Inner Line Permit System or a similar Act in the State to safeguard the indigenous population, meira paibis and school students today took out a rally in Imphal.

The rally led by the meira paibis started off from Kwakeithel Akham leikai Community Hall at 1:30pm.

The demonstrators numbering around 150 shouted slogans demanding implementation of the ILPS and to save the indigenous people of the State.

However, a team of State police personnel inclusive of women personnel blocked the demonstrators from proceeding further at the Tiddim Oil Pump.

After a brief tussle, the women police personnel managed to ward off the demonstrators.

Students of the various schools who were participating the rally in thier school uniforms were also dispersed by the Imphal West Police from the spot.
