`Protect environment and distract nature ferocity`, says DC Senapati

KANGPOKPI, August 4: Enduring and broadening its initiatives of planting trees in protecting the depleting environment and also create mass awareness, the District Administration under the leadership of DC Jacintha Lazarus in collaboration with ADC members, villages, civil bodies, DLOs and well wishers today planted tree saplings along the famous NH-2 stretch from Bongmol till Mao gate.
The flag off ceremony of the mass plantation was held at ADC office complex, Senapati at around 9 am this morning where elected members of Sadar Hills and Senapati, District Level Officers, various CSOs leaders within the districts and the police department.

Jacintha Lazarus and ML. Markson, chairman ADC Senapati led from the front with exemplary plantation which was followed by ADC members, SDOs, DLOs, civil bodies, students and Police personnel throughout the day.

Later in the afternoon, the DC along with officials and civil bodies visited plantation sites in Karong, Maram, Kuki Taphou, Hengbung, Mayangkhang, General Thangal Park, T. Khullen, Kangpokpi and Bongmol along the NH-2.

During the flagging off programme the deputy commissioner said that the road side plantation will be held within a stretch of 65kms from Bongmol village in Champhai Sub Division of Sadar Hills till Mao gate in Senapati with plantation of around 13, 000 tree saplings by villagers and students.

`It is a collective voluntary contribution from all the 1500 expected participants with a message to protect our environment and also give ascetic looks to our State`™s lifeline-NH-2″, asserted the lady IAS officer while adding that the new plants will be fenced and taken care by student bodies of Poumai Students, Mao Students, Thangal Students and Maram students in their respective jurisdiction.

The DC while thanking the Police/VDF forces stated that more than 400 VDF personnel are also participating in the mass exercise today and expressed gratitude over the enthusiastic response of the general public in the plantation movement.

Stressing on the importance of protecting the diminishing environment she said that the mass plantation drive is basically not just a road side plantation but also to create remarkable awareness about our environment.

`We have seen nature ferocity and we do not want to experience it`, she averred while adding that we need to be wide awake about the environment and the activities we are taking up to ensure that we do not experience the fury of nature.

ML. Markson, chairman ADC Senapati appealed to the public to join such innovative and mass exercise which is to save our mother Earth from further destruction due to human activities and ever growing population.

It is our advantage when we act positively and responsibly which benefits the public said Markson while he committed that ADC Senapati will support and endorse such noble initiative of the DC and her team.

This widely appreciated exercise which culminated last year by planting a record 1, 16, 000 tree saplings at a catchment area in Senapati has spread to most part of the District. This year, 18 villagers participated and re-filled more than 22, 000 tree saplings at the catchment areas. The relentless endeavor of the lady IAS officer has been lauded by NPO, Kuki Inpi-Sadar Hills, Student bodies like SDSA & KSO-SH, all Tribe Hohos and Villagers.
