IMPHAL, August 18: At a time when the State is on boil over the demand for introduction of Inner Line Permit System or similar law to safeguard the indigenous people, an elderly woman was found killed by unidentified intruders inside her residence at Yairipok Poiroukhongjing village under Andro Police Station this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Kangbam ongbi Ibemhal Devi, 66 wife of Late K Modhu of Poiroukhongjing Kaina. The murderers also took away a cash amount of Rs 1.40 lakh kept in a godrej inside the house.
According to reports received from the spot, Ibemhal was alone when some unidentified intruders suddenly sneaked into the residence and killed her mercilessly.
Other family members were performing agricultural activities at their paddy field when the incident took place.
Ibemhal`™s dead body was found inside the room of her son identified as Santosh by her son`™s wife at around 11.30 am. Santosh works at Porompat SDC Office.
One hammer and knife were found inside the room where Ibemhal was found killed with her neck strangulated.
While the unidentified persons were trying to break the godrej where the cash amount was being kept, Ibemhal entered the room and saw their act. She was killed by strangulating her neck by the intruders, the reports said.
Andro Police have registered a case in connection with the incident. The dead body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, strongly condemning the killing, a Joint Action Committee christened as the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Kangbam ongbi Ibemhal has been formed.
Subsequent upon its formation, the JAC demanded the concerned authority to nab the culprits involved in the brutal act and award stringent punishment at the earliest.
It may be mentioned that there had been an incident that took place at the same residence in March 2013 where some unidentified persons looted a cash amount of Rs 2 lakh kept in a godrej while the family members were watching a shumang leela play held in the locality.
