IMPHAL, September 5: The State government today observed the 3rd State-level Teachers`™ Day at the DM College of Commerce ground.
The celebration was organised by the State Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan, Higher and Technical Education, State Council of Education and Research Training, Adult Education, Directorate of Language, Planning and Implementation, Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur.
The function was attended by the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Education minister Moirangthem Okendro as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The function was also attended by other council of ministers, deputy speaker, chairman PDA, chairman Pollution Control Board, parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, State Awardees and students and teachers of various schools and colleges from hills and valley districts of the State.
Eight teachers were honoured with State Awards to Teachers in public recognition of their services to the community as a teacher of outstanding merit.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Okendro said the superannuation for teachers will be extended by one year for State awardees and two years for national awardees.
Meanwhile, appointment orders to teachers for 335 vacant posts in 604 aided schools were handed over during the function.
Of the 335 appointment letters, 11 were handed over on stage by the CM and Dy CM while the remaining appointment orders were distributed through 9 counters for each district opened during the function.
Ten thousand five thundered chairs were arranged for the function and it was all occupied.
If there was no bandh more would have attended the celebration function, the Education minister said lauding the people who came despite the bandh.
To make up the losses of the two months closure of schools due to the disturbance caused by ILPS agitation in the State, the Education Minister said that arrangement have been made to start the classes a little earlier from the usual class timing and to end a bit late.
Some unnecessary holidays will also be deleted from the holiday lists as well as extra classes will be conducted to complete the syllabus, he said.
He also appealed to students not to follow others blindly but to listen to their teachers.
