JD (U) meets RN Ravi urges no disturbance to State`s integrity

IMPHAL, September 11: A team of the JD(U) led by its president Moirangthem Tombi and including general secretary (organisation) Lien Gangte and general secretary (administration) Md Shek met Centre`™s interlocutor RN Ravi today and discussed the prevailing situation in the State following the signing of the Peace Accord between the NSCN (IM) and the Centre on August 3.

Addressing media persons following the meeting, Tombi said the team also submitted a memorandum to Ravi urging the Centre not to disturb the peace and harmony in the State on account of the Peace Accord.

The team told the interlocutor that the people of Manipur welcome the effort to restore peace in Nagaland by signing the accord, he said.

Any accord or package for Nagaland is welcomed in Manipur, but it should not create problems in Manipur or affect the territorial integrity and boundary of the State, he said.

He said the party has also urged the Centre against hurting the sentiments of the people and should recall the June 18 incident of 2001 before taking any step which could harm the State.

Tombi said, during the meeting, the team had also welcomed the reported statement of Nagaland Governor PB Acharya that around 4000 cadres of the NSCN (IM) will be absorbed into some security forces.

They had at the same time expressed that the Governor had failed to reflect on the weapons of the weapons of the cadres.

Ravi was also apprised that their weapons are used against the Manipuri transporters along the National Highway 2 to extract illegal extortion and once their weapons are seized, peace will be restored in the neighbouring States

Gangte said they had expressed before the interlocutor the apprehension of the people towards the framework agreement.

Ravi was also informed that if the accord affects the State there will be no compromise, he said.

Gangte also said that they had informed Ravi that there is a need to seek opinion of all sections of the society and hold consultative meetings with the CSOs and other organisations of the State.

The interest of the others cannot be hurt because of the interest of a single section, he said.

He said Ravi had informed that the peace accord will end soon and that the agreement will not affect Manipur.

Ravi had also said that he will try to hold consultative meetings with the CSOs next time and to support him in the future.
