KANGPOKPI, Sep.5: While the nation observed Teachers`™ Day in remembrance of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan today the tribal people and other minorities groups in Manipur observed condolence in remembrance of the Tribal Martyrs in Churachandpur and staged Sit-in-Protest against the three controversial bills passed in the State assembly in various place of Sadar Hills district in Manipur today.
A mass condolence ceremony of the eight tribal youth who died during protest at Churachandpur on August 31 and September 1 was organized at Leimakhong bazar in Sadar Hills by Leimakhong Area Chief Organization in collaboration with Leimakhong Area Youth Organization and mourned the martyrs of Churachandpur incident.
Around 4500 people from the tribal populace and other non-Manipuris in Leimakhong and its adjoining area gathered this morning at Leimakhong bazar to pay homage and shared the pain and sorrow of the families.
The mourners hold placard reading, `We Mourns the Martyrs of Churachandpur incident`, `Separate Administration is the Solution, why Rubber Bullet in Imphal and Live Bullet in Churachandpur?`, `Innocent were Killed`, `We can die for our Land and fight for our Land`, `We opposed the Anti-Tribal Bills tooth and nail`, etc.
Ex-MLA SL. Paokhosei, Mawinu, vice president KWU Sadar Hills, who is also the president Leimakhong Area Women Union, area chiefs, church leaders also spoke at the gathering.
Speaking to media person sHesei Touthang, general secretary of Leimakhong Area Chief Organization said that the tribal populace and another minority group in Leimakhong area strongly condemned the atrocities of the state security force in Churachandpur towards the tribal protestors and we gathered here today to show our solidarity to the martyrs.
We also sturdily opposed the three controversial bills passed in the state Assembly on August 31 since it is a direct threat to the tribal populace further said LACO leader.
He also said that the three controversial bills passed by the Manipur Congress Government unswerving infringed upon the very existence hill tribes and the kind of protest they made justified the threatened feeling of the hill people.
A mass prayer for the tribal Martyrs in Churachandpur and donation for the bereaved family have been conducted during the event.
