Meghalaya Governor sworn in as interim Manipur Governor

IMPHAL September 30: The Governor of Meghalaya V Shanmuganathan was sworn in as the interim Governor of Manipur on Wednesday following the demise of Dr Syed Ahmed on September 27.

Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra administered the oath of office and secrecy to V Shanmuganathan at a solemn ceremony held at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. It was followed by an interactive tea party.

In his first address to the local media, the new enthusiastic Governor from Chennai stated, `As someone who has dedicated 40 years of my life to work for the people of the country I look forward to meeting all class of people in Manipur too`.

He says his position is above politics and religion hence he will only be directed by constitutional guidance to work for all the citizens of the State.

As someone who had dedicatedly work on issues like untouchables, he emphasis on the bond of love among the citizens of the country towards fostering the unity of the India.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, deputy Speaker M K Preshow and other ministers were present on the occasion.

Outgoing chief secretary P C Lawmkunga, DGP Shahid Ahmad and high ranking civil and police officials were also present at the swearing in ceremony.

This is the fourth instance of changing Governors since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi`™s government took charge in April 2014.
