IMPHAL, September 12: A functionary of the NCSN (R) was shot at and wounded by his personal guard in Mon District of Nagaland on September 12.

Sources said the incident occurred at Pongkong designated camp of the NSCN (R), which falls under Tizit sub-division.

According to Mon police, the NSCN (R) functionary identified as one `Lt Col`™ Lemshong Phom, 45, was shot by his personal bodyguard identified as Wangmong Phom, who escaped with the weapon afterwards.

The injured functionary was admitted to Mon district hospital with three bullet wounds and later shifted to Dibrugarh, according to sources.

It is also said that the injured functionary declined to register an FIR.

Meanwhile, sources said heavy exchange of fire took place between NSCN, -K cadres and the Assam Rifles, after the troopers raided two villages along the India-Myanmar border.

Meanwhile, five militants belonging to Kuki National Liberation Front (* KNLF, ) were arrested by the Army from * Churachandpur, district in Manipur, sources said.
