CHAKPIKARONG, Oct 9: The temporary makeshift bridge built by local denizens after the RCC bridge over Chakpi River snapped during the recent flash flood, was also swept away today in the river current due to the continuous incessant rain since the last two days.
It may be mentioned that the bridge was constructed way back in 1966 by a Calcutta based company and in that same year the water level reach the lower portion of the bridge which happened again in 1987.
However, the bridge snapped on the third instance during the recent flood.
On the other hand, the makeshift bridge erected by the locals on August 3 was also swept away.
Speaking to media persons, MDC Chakpikarong DCC said that the people of Chakpikarong have suffered enough due to the collapsed RCC Bridge.
Now the makeshift bridge has also collapsed, he said.
Considering the sufferings of the locals, the concerned authorities of the State are urged to do the needful, he said.
