CIRCA observes Manipur State Assembly Day, urges govt to put celebration in official calendar

IMPHAL, Oct 18: The Coalition for Indigenes`™ Rights Campaign CIRCA, Manipur today organised observation of `Manipur State Assembly Day` at many different villages and townships raising the flag of the pre-Merger Manipur, demanding the government among others for the day to be observed officially as `Manipur State Assembly Day.`

October 18 is the day in 1948 when the first elected Assembly of Manipur, under the Manipur Constitution Act 1948, convened its first sitting.

This event was before the state`™s formal merger with India on October 15, 1949.

The main function CIRCA function for the day was held at Nambol Oinam Keithel, in collaboration with the Pioneer Education & Sporting Union, PESU.

Among those who deliberated on the issue on the occasion were, Mangpu Kilong, Secretary Kom Literature Society and son of one of the ministers in the per-Merger Assembly, Keba Kilong; Pradip Phanjoubam, editor, Imphal Free Press, Oinam Ibochouba Khuman, N. Saratchandra, Irengbam Jugeshwor, principal Royal Academy of Law, Ningthouja Lancha, spokesperson CIRCA and Somorendro Thokchom, convenor CIRCA.
