KSO TB draws govt attention on teacher`s shortage

KANGPOKPI, October 3: Kuki Students`™ Organization Twilang Block (IT.Road area) has drawn the attention of the State government and the State Education department in particular in connection with the alleged shortage of teachers in various education institutions in its area.

Paochunglen Hangshing, general secretary of KSO Twilang Block said that a team of KSO Twilang Block had recently visited educational institutions within Twilang (IT Road) area and found many government schools in the area left without teaching for many years.

He continued that, West Joupi Primary School, which was established under EGS, Govt. of India in November, 2012 still remains without a teacher.

`West Joupi chief Onkai Haokip told us that after the establishment of the West Joupi Primary School two teachers were appointed namely Anuradha and Lovely Kamjong` narrated Paochunglen while adding that the two teachers got transferred and got utilized elsewhere the next academic session in 2013.

He further said that since then no teachers has been sent to the school till now where more than 50 students from different villages in the area are admitted.

Request from office to office and pillars to post yielded no effective result which compelled him to appoint three local teachers to impart education to the students further said Paochunglen Hangshing.

The chief further told us that so far the village authority had managed to run the schools with lots of hardship in the interest of the young student community but we will be compelled to close down the school in the next academic session due to financial problems, said Paochunglen.

KSO TB general secretary continued that in a similar vein Govajang Primary School too is sailing in the same boat where the village chief revealed that among the two teachers appointed in the school one is being utilized elsewhere in the office and the other one is running the school.

Govajang chief Thangminlen Chongloi further told the team that running a school of fifty plus students by a single teacher would be against the one is to thirty ratio of new education policy, Paochunglen added.

The student body leader further alleged that five high schools which are recently upgraded from junior high schools viz. T. Waichong High School with more than 700 students; Irang Part-II Govt. High School having around 300 students; Chalwa High School with more than 300 students; Thonglang Akutpa High School with more than 300 student and Gelnel High School, one of the oldest school in the area with 400 students faced complete shortage of teachers.

The headmasters of these high schools told us that language teacher especially MIL Nepali is an urgent requirement since the schools have numerous Nepali student said Paochunglen while adding that local teachers in regards to the MIL subject are being appointed by the SMDC`™s of the concerned schools and manage with lots of difficulties.

Considering our fact finding in connection with acute shortage of teachers in various schools in the area we urge the state Government and the concerned department to act immediately so as to wrap the freezing education in the area in cotton wool.

If the Government and the concern department fail address our polite plea KSO will not remain silent over the deplorable education system in the area and rather would resort to any accessible mode which can make the government pay attention to our voice, warned the student body.
