IMPHAL, October 4: A team of postal officers conducted a Mela in Namdilong Church at Kanglatombi today, according to a statement of the superintendent Post Offices.
It said the mela was conducted taking another step to provide benefits of Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) to maximum people.
It said pastor Kasiliang was the special guest for the function while Vinod Kumar, Director (Posts), Manipur attended as chief guest.
In his inaugural speech, Kumar explained the importance of taking cover of RPLI as it caters to the essential needs of the rural population and insurance should be treated as an instrument of investment so that one can plan for taking care of financial requirements which will appear in future, it said.
He also intimated that PLI & RPLI both the schemes are available on a very low premium while they offer good high bonus and it`™s always better to join these schemes in young age to fetch good return on invested money, it continued.
Supdt of Posts, Manipur division told the audiences that post office is offering various schemes for general public like Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna while Hemanta, Inspector of Posts, Kangpokpi Sub Division explained the various features of Pradahan Mantri Jeewan Jyoti Yojna which are available in post offices, it said.
He explained that all post office saving bank account holders under age of 18 to 70 years are eligible to avail benefits in these schemes at very economical subscription of rupee one a month only, it said.
Poireton Thokchom, Inspector of Posts further described the necessity of these schemes, as in time of need like if bread earner of family meets with an accident or suffers major injury the family faces financial difficulties and by subscribing these schemes a family can avail benefits of insurance of their earning member at Rs One only, it said.
Esther, an officer of the dept described about the benefits of Sukanya Samridhi Yojna, it continued.
She elucidated the features of the schemes and also clarified various doubts about this scheme. She appealed all the people that they should open a SSY account in name of every eligible girl child under age of 10 years saying that at the time of maturity the girl child will get a huge amount which can be used for higher education or brighter future plans. She informed 9.2% rate of interest if fixed by the government in this financial year which will be calculated compounded annually, it continued.
At the event, Kanglatombi Branch Postmaster Sanjoy arranged application forms for all schemes of postal department, he intimated that there are 200 households in the village and residents of more than 150 houses are having postal life insurance, it said.
Vinod Kumar, DPS said if the village is covered fully with postal insurance cover the dept will consider to construct a bus waiting stand or provision of water at the point for service of the villagers, it said. He also assured about the proposal of providing better postal and SB facilities there, it said.
