KANGPOKPI, Oct.2: Joining the rest of the country in observing the Gandhi Jayanti, the District administration in collaboration with local bodies, PHED department and Villages organize a mass rally with a message of `keep Senapati clean` and `Keep Senapati Green`.
Organised for the first time in the District, DC Senapati announced the innovative creation of Schools Eco clubs to provide opportunities to student`™s involvement in protecting our depleting environment.
Interestingly, all five SDOs of five blocks led public rallies from five different locations before culminating at Senapati public ground, DHQ.
Participants holding placards and banners marched around the main DHQ town to create awareness on cleanliness issue and protecting our environment.
Earlier, as part of the traditional way of observing the day, during the early hours, villagers, Government employees with officers, schools, business establishments, youth bodies and general public from all wakes of life observe the day by organizing their own social work and cleaning their campus/complex.
By late morning, villages within the DHQ area took out the mass rally which is part of the National Sanitation Campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
Banners which reads `Save water`™ `Save life`™, `save trees to sustain water source`™,`™ harvest rain water for drinking purposes`™, `Keep Senapati clean`™, `stop deforestation`™, `Stop forest fire`™ and `plant more trees`™, `construct proper drainage for healthy living`™, `cleanliness is next to Godliness`™ were displayed during the rally.
In Mao, 300 strong JNV students, Song Song Youth and students organization and Mao town committee organized a mass social work around the border town cleaning up the NH-2, drains, bushes and creating awareness on cleanliness as part of our society.
With villages from around the DHQ joining the movement, the rally was led by Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus, from the front along with ADC members, civil bodies, Village leaders, SP Kabib K, ADC CEO Rang Peter, all SDOs, DLOs, department officials and young citizens.
After the rally, DC Jacintha speaking to the participants appealed to the people to give importance to protecting our natural resources and have awareness of cleanliness.
The IAS officer who has championed for the cause of saving our environment and cleanliness issues in Senapati District since last year with a record breaking tree plantation drive and organizing cleanliness competition among the villages informed to all the schools to form an eco-club to step up and enhance in preserving our ecological resources and also maintain cleanliness in Senapati.
ADC member PA Thekho also appealed to the public to carry forward the message of PM Modi who wanted to have a clean India through the Swachh Bharat movement.
