KANGPOKPI, November 30: Civil Society Organizations of Sadar Hills have decided to called indefinite economic blockade along the Trans Asian Highway No.1 from midnight of December 2 over the dilapidated road condition of the highway today.
Spokesperson of Sadar Hills CSOs Lamcha Chongloi said that they had anticipatorily highlighted the deplorable road condition of the Trans Asian Highway No.1 a number of times to the concerned department and the State government officially as well as through media.
But, our hope of revitalizing the ghostly condition of the highway remain lingering in the air even after repeated plea which ultimately rendered us to came up with a warning of intense agitation if the condition of the lifeline of the State is not taken care of within a week time, Lamcha added.
Interestingly, the additional Chief Engineer, PWD, Govt. of Manipur met the CSOs on November 23 only to give us another false promise alleged Lamcha Chongloi while adding that during the meeting the official had assured them to begin the work immediately after two days but nothing has been done till today.
Therefore, we collectively decided today to impose indefinite economic blockade along the highway within Sadar Hills till the work has been passably put into practice, Lamcha Chongloi added.
He further said that apart from the ghastly condition of the road the Trans Asian Highway No.1 has been lodging incalculable potholes presenting the perfect sorry pictures of untold misery of the road users and rendered extreme hazard to ten and thousands commuters from various other states and the local residents.
“It also perfectly indicates the hands-off attitude of the Manipur Government apart from the concerned departments and contractors”, asserted Lamcha Chongloi.
Meanwhile, Sadar Hills CSOs appealed to the general public to team up with the CSOs during the stir and urged most importantly to all the State and inter-State transporters of economic goods to respect the blockade and abstain from any act of defiance stating that they
