Slow pace of road repairing work irks Chandel civil organisations

CHANDEL, November 19: The district’s Naga civil bodies have expressed discontentment over the slow pace of the ongoing repairing work of the 18km long stretch of the District Headquarters road from Pallel and urged the concerned authority to complete the repairing of the road at the earliest.

Since the repairing work of the road was taken up since early part of the current year, only a few kilometers from Pallel area, Komlathabi (Kapaam)area and district headquarters area were black topped and the other portions of the road were left untouched even though stone chips were laid.

The commuters who travel along the road endure hardship and it almost took nearly an hour to reach the district headquarters from Pallel after bumping rides through numerous pot holes and a cloud of dust. And there is also a report of frequent traffic accidents along the district headquarter road due to the deplorable road condition.

Speaking to the media persons, Ws. Kanral Anal, President of Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) told that the repairing work of the road has been closely monitored by a Development & Monitoring Cell of the organization. And it was found that the repairing work of the only 18 kms stretch road was not complete till day and the repairing was indeed very slow.

On behalf of the people of Chandel, the President of the organization urged the concern contractors to expedite the repairing work and complete the road at the earliest possible.

Lh. Bliss Anal, President of Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC) and SR. Joyningam, President of Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) also expressed dissatisfaction over the ongoing repairing work of the road and pointed out that quality was not maintained in the ongoing repairing work of Chandel to Pallel road.

While appealing the concern authority to maintain quality and complete the repairing work in time, the President of the two Union also warned that the Union will taken up necessary measures if the concern authority fails to heed our grievances.

It may be mentioned that prior to sanctioning the amount for repairing of the road by the Government, the people of Chandel raised hues and cries in the forms of Bandh, Sit in protest, Mass Rally for repairing the road stretch. Even, the road was once repaired by the general public, civil organization and like-minded public leaders on their own capacities.

Notably, Chief Minister O. Ibobi and the then Governor of the State VK Duggal also took the road to experience the deplorable road condition during their visit in the District Headquarters in mid 2014.
