IMPHAL, December 10: BJP Manipur State Election Committee convenor M Asnikumar declared that out of 183 applications received for party tickets for the upcoming Municipal and Nagar Panchayat election, the party has unanimously approved 174 candidates.
The decision was arrived at during a meeting of the committee chaired party president Th Chaoba which was held today, he said.
Meanwhile, the meeting also resolved to wait for two more days in regards candidate selection for Lamlai Municipal Council during which period all problems of the Lamlai BJP council will be sorted out, he said.
The party had constituted altogether 26 committees consisting of five members and led by a senior party leader for the election, he said.
Considering the 2017 State Assembly Election, steps have been initiated to strengthen the party from the grassroot level, he added.
The local body election will cover 23 Assembly segments of the four valley district and can be considered an election for a mini-Assembly in a democratic country, he observed.
The election will be fought under the slogan “Support BJP and save Manipur”, he declared.
The BJP has full confidence of winning maximum seats in the election as the party has created a momentum with the recent Autonomous District Council elections in the hill districts and last month’s bye-election to two Assembly Constituencies, he added.
He further appealed to the people of Manipur to understand the present grievances of the State under the present Congress government ruling in the State for the past 13 years and to support the BJP.
