Books on Manipuri folk tales released

IMPHAL December 23: The 10-day long Imphal Book Fair which was inaugurated on December 15 is attracting a huge number of local book lovers and encouraging a new wave of reading as another character of this town.

Several publishers and retailers from within and outside the State are beaming at the good sale this year.

According to one of the proprietor, “Both the weather and the host have been hospitable to us. We also did our best to expand the subject and topics this year along with the fresh items and offering at least 15 percent off on all items. Indeed we are encouraged by the enthusiasm that is rippling in this State among the book lovers.”

Four books on Manipuri folk tales were released at the book fair today namely Moramba I – story and illustrated by Devkumar Laishram, Edited by Dr RK Nimai and translated by Sanatombi Angomcha, Moramba II – story and illustrated by Devkumar Laishram, Edited by Dr RK Nimai and translated by Sanatombi Angomcha, Kabui Karoiba – story by Salam Tomba, Edited by Dr RK Nimai and translated by Sanatombi Angomcha and Henjunaha Lairoulembi & Seven Brothers – story by B

Jantakumar Sharma and Boris Thanga, Edited by Dr. R.K. Nimai and translated by Sanatombi Angomcha.

These colorful folktale in comic books are produced under the Nanao Fungga Wari Series and published by NE Brothers Entertainments Pvt. Ltd.

So far they have published 12 illustrated folktales books.

According to their director, Nelson Elangbam, ‘These stories illustrate the commonality of human experience and will be both educational and entertaining for the readers. The imaginative narratives offer profound insights into the cultures, comedy and pathos of our lives and much wisdom is embedded in such folktales. Our ultimate intent is to popularise these folktales in a medium that will be attractive to the young generation’ he said.
