IMPHAL, Dec 14: During the period of 1970 to 2005, Manipur had witnessed many cultural influences on the practice of the Lai Haraoba which is evident from the various items are incorporated and showcased during Lai Haraoba ceremonies today just for entertainment, parliamentary secretary K Meghachandra said today.
He was speaking at a one day discussion on ‘Umang Lai Haraoba da Tangkhul Nurabi gi Thouram’ which was organised by the Umang Lai Kanba Lup at the Lamyanba Shanglen today.
We should preserve the Lai Haroaba ceremony which has been passed on to us by our ancestors, he said.
Today’s programme was organised with the objective to analyse the significance of the ‘Tangkhul Nurabi’ which is a mandatory performance of the Umang Lai Haroaba.
Meghachandra also lauded UKAL’s initiative to protect the indigenous Lai Haraoba and added that a booklet on the ceremony will soon be released after proper study of the Umang lai Haraoba.
