IMPHAL, December 27: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today released a Manipuri travelogue written by former minister Dr M Nara entitled “Saknairaba Singga Unnaba” at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen.
Speaking at the function the Deputy Chief Minister said the identity of every community is defined by its language, culture and tradition which also denote the developmental status of the community.
He continued that despite Manipur being a geographically small State, its language, culture, traditions, arts and sports have highlighted the place before the entire world.
Dr M Nara’s book is not an ordinary book, but it is a product of his hard work and is based on his own personal experience, Gaikhangam observed.
He further urged the gathering to promote the culture, tradition and language of the land.
Delivering the presidential speech, Padmashri Aribam Shyam Sharma, an eminent film maker said the University of Culture will be set up soon and the people should be proud of this.
He said the people should grab with both hands the opportunity which will be available once the university is set up.
He said once the university is established, people will get an opportunity to discuss and do research on the different aspects of art and culture.
The university, he said would be of immense help in preserving the culture of the land.
He said Shumang Leela will also get a place in the university.
Dr Nara in his speech said the book was on based on his meetings with imminent personalities.
He further expressed hope that the people will be able to appreciate it.
He also said that he has already five books to his name of which many have been converted into a drama and films.
Dr Nara also appealed to the people to work together for the upliftment of art and culture in the State.
