IMPHAL, December 4: Father of a minor with multiple disabilities who was allegedly murdered in January last year lamented the delay in tracing the suspects even today.
Amuthoi, the still grieving father regretted although the police had assured to bring out the killers within a month, it is already two long years and the killers are still at large.
A team consisting of members of the Women Action for Development and media persons among others led by WAD secretary M Sobita visited the father at his Chandonpokpi Khongabal Leikai residence as part of the ongoing ‘fact finding on Crime Against Women’ the 16-days activism on Gender based violence.
Amuthoi said it has been almost two years since the incident however, the culprits are yet to be traced let alone be arrested.
It may be recalled that the young girl who was just 10 at the time was found dead on January 31, 2014 under the Khuga Bridge in between Phaijol and Chonglankhong, under Kumbi Police Station.
She had gone out of her home on January 22 to gather their cattle and had gone missing before her body was recovered under a culvert.
Police had also indicated foul play as it was reported that there were external injuries on her body and that her undergarments were found manipulated.
Forensic test had also confirmed that she was raped before being eventually murdered.
“The scene when her body was found under the culvert is still fresh in my mind,” he lamented.
“My daughter was loved by the whole villagers as she was very understanding, despite of her multiple disabilities,” he bemoaned.
Meanwhile, the North East Dialogue Forum had filed a complaint to the national Commission for Protection of Child Rights following which, the commission had observed that Section 5 (m)/6 of the POSCO Act should be applied as the victim is said to be sexually assaulted before her murder.
The commission had also observed that status report of the investigation of the case may be sought from the SP, Bishnupur, according to sources.
The commission had also informed the SP in this regard, sources said.
Meanwhile, Sobita said the State police is well equipped and intelligent enough in tackling the insurgency issue in the State, but is facing problems in handling such sensitive case.
Two years have passed since the young girl was found dead and there is still no development in the case, she claimed.
January 22 when the young girl went missing was at a time when security throughout the State was on alert owing to the January 26 celebration of the Republic Day.
During this period, the cordoning and search operations are conducted not only by the State force but by also the paramilitary forces, she said.
She further appealed to the higher authorities to speed up the investigation in the case.
