IMPHAL, December 7: MP Inner Manipur Dr Thokchom Meinya today raised the issue of the death of a State lad at Odisha in the Parliament today.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour , Meinya had demanded a strong stringent anti-racial law in the country.
He said `The body of L Poumai of Purul, Manipur was found at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Odisha on December 1.`
`Poumai was travelling to Bangalore by train from Dimapur on November 29. On the same day, he called up one of his family members at around 4.55 pm and complained of being threatened by around five persons. Then the call reportedly got disconnected,` the MP informed the Parliament.
Poumai was nowhere to be seen though the train he was travelling on reached Bangalore on November 30, he said.
Poumai was suspectedly thrown out of a moving train by the attackers and a police FIR No 0249/ 2015 was reportedly lodged on December 1, he said.
`I urge this august house to condemn the sad brutal incident. Criminals are criminals. They should be immediately booked, arrested and severe stringent punishment should be given to them,` he said.
`Such incidents should not be allowed to recur,` he had said raising concerns against the incident which he said appears to be a `clear case of racial discrimination.`
`Attacks on the Northeasterners in the mainland are very frequent. Even the capital Delhi is not an exception,` he said reminding that there was a mass exodus of NE people from cities like Bangaluru because of such unwarranted racial attacks.
Following these racial attacks in the mainland more particularly in the Metros, the Government of India constituted MP Bezbaruah Committee and its recommendations are already with the government, he said.
The MP also sought the indulgence of the members of the parliament and urged the Union government to fully implement the MP Bezbaruah Committee recommendations and thereby enact a strong stringent anti-racial law of the country immediately to avoid such incidents in future.
