IMPHAL, December 23: A suspected underground cadre was killed in an alleged gun-fight between security forces and UG cadres today around 9:30am at Tamenglong district.
According to sources, the gun-fight occurred this morning near L Khunou Village, under Khupum Police Station in Tamenglong district and around 40 km west of Bishnupur Police Station.
Reports also said that since suspected cadres of the Naga National Council shot at an Excavator driver involved in the construction of a road to connect Bishnupur with Khoupum in Tamenglong district passing through Rengpang on December 10, Bishnupur District police commandos had been providing security to the workers.
Today as a team of the Police Commandos was guarding the workers, three persons fired upon them and in retaliatory fire from the Cdos one of them was killed while the two others managed to escape, informed sources.
It is also learnt that another team of the Bishnupur Police accompanied by forensic experts is on their way to the incident site. The road construction work is undertaken by the M/s Keystone Infrastructure Company Ltd with funding from the NEC.
A 9mm pistol and some live rounds recovered from his possession. The body has been deposited at the RIMS mortuary late this evening.
