Poster campaign against violence against women, children held

CHANDEL, December 5: As part of International fortnight campaign to end violence against women, All Tribal Women’s Organisation (ATWO) Chandel and Rural Education and Action for Change – Manipur (REACH-M) took out a poster campaign today.

Volunteers of the two organisations pasted several posters with different themes for ending violence against women and children at Pallel Bazar, Meipou, Kangshang, Aimol and Japhou Bazar.

ATWO’s president Lalam Mate, REACH – M’s child sponsorship coordinator Darshim and Chingtam Nupi Apunba Lup’s president Nungshi Devi attended the posters campaign. Speaking on the sidelines of the campaign, K Moikham, secretary of ATWO said that the poster campaign was organised as part of the International fortnight campaign to end violence against women, which commenced from November 25 last.

She informed that the campaign will be held in different parts of the district till December 10.

She maintained that the objective of the campaign is to spread the message for ending violence and crimes against women.

Crime against women and women in the State is increasing rapidly, she lamented and continued that women and children are not safe even in their own homes and localities due to domestic violence, discrimination, rape, murder and other crimes committed against them.

As such, the campaign was organised to stop violence against women and children as well as to ensure justice for them so that they can enjoy their rights, the ATWO secretary said.
