IMPHAL, December 24: Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL) in collaboration with Emingsel organized a one day media interface at Manipur Press Club here today.
As stated by officials of the department represented by DGM IED-2 O Kartic; DGM IED-4 L Dineshkumar and Manager M
Chandramani, the interface was meant to clarify all pertaining queries and exchange opinions on advancement of power delivery services in the State.
Imphal Correspondent, The Telegraph Khelen Thokchom and news editor of All India Radio, Imphal Ibomcha attended as panellists. A vibrant interaction on various issues ranging from faulty power supply, bribery in the field, new power stations, on line recharge facilities, issues of meter memory and related applications werediscussed at length during the interaction programme.
The gathering applauded the effort of MSPDCL for completely transforming the power service in Greater Imphal area in the last one year in an amazing pace.
The department representatives opined that the first year’s focus was to supply electricity in every household; however, the major constraint was the increase in the household number from 70, 000 to 1, 50, 000 after the introduction of the prepaid model.
Yet we are progressively addressing this gap of initial plan and field reality” Chandramani said.
He mentioned that the department has able to collect more than Rs 9 crore in the last one year which is a quantum leap, from a mere Rs 5 crore revenue prior to corporatization.
Greater Imphal area consumes about 60-70 percent out of the total 150 megawatts, hence about Rs 5 crore revenue is generated from this area. Still, we have a huge margin of shortfall in aiming for Rs 25 crores revenue, he said.
Exuding confidence that the margin can be narrowed soon given the pace and response from the public, he informed that a total of 1912 complaint rooms have been introduced since December 10.
The department officials also hinted at possible increase in the introductory tariff in the State, which is at 2.8 per unit at present.
However, public hearings will be conducted on such important decision, they added.
