IMPHAL, December 21: The Senior Citizens for Society Manipur has today appealed to the people to ensure the January 21 local body election to be free and fair.
Speaking to media persons at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today, vice president Nepram Bihari said we are concerned about the present trend of buying votes sweeping across the State as well.
Hence we appeal to both the candidates as well as the voters to abstain from such malicious conduct and instead exercise the rights to choose the most worthy candidates, said Nepram Bihari, vice president Senior Citizens.
The senior citizens have resolved to promote a corruption free election and hope that other like-minded citizens will support this initiative too, he said.
We will soon form a Joint Action Committee to spearhead this responsibility and network with other local clubs and meira paibi groups to check such malpractices during election and monitor all process to ensure a corruption free election, he added.
He said Senior Citizens will also boycott candidates found to distribute money and indulging in buying votes.
Likewise voters accepting money will be boycotted, he added.
