NEW Delhi, Dec 17: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumita Mahajan, yesterday inaugurated the 4th familiarisation programme in Parliamentary Process and Procedures for Media Persons accredited to the Legislative Assemblyies of States from North East India (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura) at G-74 Parliament Library Building.
The inaugural function was attended by Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST) (organising committee) official, Lok Sabha Joint Secretary Kalpana Sharma, Joint Director Dr. Deepak Gosain and Alpana Tripathy.
The programme was also attended by Senior Journalists from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura.
For Manipur, Executive Editor of IFP-Maibam Dhanabir Meetei, Associate Editors of Manipur Updates-Yumlembam Nikesh Singh and Senior Reporter of Poknapham Daily-Thongam Premchand Singh are participating the programme.
Soon on their arrival at the national capital, the journalists were taken to the Lok Sabha to attend the question hour of the ongoing parliamentary session led by joint secretary of Parliament house Kalpana Sharma followed by a tour of the Parliament museum and library.
Interacting with the NE journalists, Sumita Mahajan has said that India cannot be developed unless the NE states are developed adding that the present Government is aware of the suffering of this region.
Assuring that the plight of the NE states will be looked into with the opening of new Ministry, the speaker exhorted the need for the politicians including MLAs, MPs to work with the mindset of ‘national thinking’.
