IMPHAL, December 26: Acclaimed poet, Thangjam Ibopishak’s ‘Sajibu’, a collection of essays was released in a simple function here at Manipur Press Club on December 25.
Winner of Sahitya Akademy Award and many other prestigious award, ‘Sajibu’ is the first ever collection of essays by the poet to be published.
Speaking on the occasion, noted literary critic, N Tombi congratulated the writer and the publisher for their effort to come out with a collection of essays, which is rare in the Manipuri literary circuit.
He said the year 2015 will be remembered as something unique in the literary history of Manipur with poet Ibopishak adding an anthology of essay in his list of publications.
It may be mentioned that so far the poet already has ten books of poems in his coffer.
Yumlembam Ibomcha, noted writer of the State also spoke on the occasion of the book release. He said his journey with Ibopishak has been a long one.
“We have been together since our college days and we have walked miles sharing our literary works till this date”, he said, adding that people may consider Ibopishak as a heartless cynic from the readings of his writings.
“But I know him as a very sensitive man who has immense love for people known to him”, he said. Ibomca exuded admiration of his writer friend for being able to continue writing tirelessly.
In the occasion, Asst Prof Kumari Chanu of Lilong Haoreibi College gave a critical appraisal on the book. She maintained that ‘Sajibu’ is a rare collection of essays which is both engaging and amusing to read.
It may be mentioned that the book published by Yaibiren Communications has four sections, which includes semi-autobiographical recollections of the writer.
The release function was also attended by many noted writers and poets of the State.
