IMPHAL, December 7: The Indian Oil Co-operation Limited (IOCL) has officially intimated the Manipur government to provide with adequate security for oil tankers to ferry oil in the wake of the disturbances along the Imphal Dimpur National Highway.
According to highly reliable sources, the IOC sent the written intimation today addressing the Special Secretary/Principal Secretary, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD).
The IOCL in their letter said that the measure was taken up to ensure that there is no shortage of fuels in the State amidst the disturbances continuing along the National Highways.
It specifically drew the attention to take up heavy security measures like constant ROP to avert any untoward incidents for the truckers plying along the NH-2 from Kaongpokpi war cemetery to Taphou, disclosed the sources.
It has been informed that similar request had also been made by the All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers`™ Union (AMPYDU) and All Manipur Petroleum Transporters`™ Association (AMPTA).
The IOCL also reportedly mentioned the details of the stock position in the letter.
According to the tally, the current position of Air Traffic Fuel (ATF) is recorded to be 323 KL and estimated to last for 16 days when the Normal Stock Position should be 500 KL.
While the present stock of LPG gas is recorded to be 128.46 KL and estimated to last two days, it has been estimated that Petrol stock will last six days with only 729 KL.
There are 2758 KL Diesel stock for 11 days and 1671 KL of Kerosene for 17 days, continued the sources.
It IOCL had reportedly sent similar intimation since the economic blockade began and on December 3 but the CAF&PD department remained unresponsive.
