IMPHAL, December 18: The State government will not demolish or neglect the Modern College even though its campus will be acquired for expansion of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences campus, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said during the 8th foundation day celebration of the hospital.
The celebration was held at the JNIMS auditorium today.
Elaborating further, the Chief Minister said JNIMS was started with poor infrastructure, however, with cooperation from the authorities concerned and support of the staff, it has been gradually upgraded to the present level.
The Chief Minister also added that hopefully it will continue to expand its horizon in the near future.
For future expansion of the JNIMS, the State cabinet, he said had taken the decision to acquire the campus of the Modern College.
However, the process of acquisition is not progressing as expected due to several appeals made by senior citizens who had dedicated wholeheartedly in establishing and nurturing the college, he added.
The State government will not demolish the college, the Chief Minister assured, while adding that he was certain that the appeal of the government will surely be accepted by the authority of the college in delivering the land in the interest of developing the medical sector in the State.
Chief Minister Okarm Ibobi Singh also called on all the medical fraternity to join force as an elite force for more advancement in medical sector and improvement of the medical institution in Manipur.
“If there is a problem there will be a solution and if there is will their will be success” said the Chief Minister adding that under this principle we need to work out for positive outcome.
The Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate of Manipur is 10 percent in every 1000 live births and 60 percent in every one lakh live birth and the State has achieved consecutively for last three years, he reiterated.
He urged the medical fraternity and other leaders in health industry to lay more emphasize on the ailing patients and their anxious parties while discharging their valuable services and to keep up the spirit of humanity and kindness which are true traits of a healer.
Okram Ibobi exhorted the authority, staff and other employees of JNIMS to work hard to make the institute a deemed university or a research Institute while announcing that the Gynaecology ward will be upgraded soon considering the problems faced by the patients.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Phungzathang Tonsing lauded the initiative taken up by JNIMS authority in uplifting the institution.
He suggested that everyone must come forward put their heads together for bringing more improvement.
