IMPHAL, December 18: The celebration of Rani Gaidinliu Centenary cum Golden Jubilee of All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU) (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) which started from December 15 at the public ground of Thanagong Khoupum Tamenglong District concluded today amidst fanfare.
Performances of Zeliangrong cultural dance by different groups, musical performances and the Golden Queen Contest for Zeliangrong communities marked the event.
The Golden Queen Contest which was the major attraction of the closing day was participated by altogether 13 contestants from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
The Golden Queen contest was sponsored by social worker Adim Pamei and BJP general secretary (Administration) Moirangthem Asnikumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Asnikumar observed the need to set up a Zeliangrong Cultural Research Centre to develop and promote the colourful art form of the Zeliangrong communities.
Today’s youth is the future of our society and tapping the hidden talent exposing them before the society is crucial in order to develop one’s culture, he observed.
Promising that he and his party will act in their best level to bring a Zeliangrong Cultural Research Centre at Khoupum in the near future, Asnikumar urged the Khoupum Village Authority and AZSU to prepare a Detailed Project Report for the centre.
Regardless of the fact that Khoupum Valley is very significant place for Manipur in historical point of view, the State government especially the Home minister who hails from the valley, has completely neglected the valley in every aspect starting from road and communication, and basic infrastructure.
Asnikumar promised the people that he will write a letter to Union Ministry of road and surface transport Nitin Gadkhari to expedite construction of the Tongjei Maril.
It is a shame that the Deputy CM of the State who despite of being a Cabinet Minister in important departments in his over 30 years of political career has no concern for his own constituency, lambasted Asnikumar.
Social worker from Khuopum Adim Pamei said that he is proud to be a Zeliangrong for the fact that a woman from this community stood up against the mighty British empire.
He lauded the effort of the organization for organising a remarkable commemoration of the late Rani Gaidinliu.
Adim Pamei, appealed to the people to continue to support him and bring a drastic change in Khoupum area and Nungba constituency, which he said have been miserably failed by the elected person for the past 30 years.
Social worker Susildro (Yaima) also promised the gathering that he would apprise the Union Minister of Telecommunication government of India to improve communication network at Khoupum.
